Vasilisa is a female filmmaker originally from Russia, the land of intensity, contradictions and passion. She's also a scorpio, making her one dark, sexual, powerful, intense and determined woman. Vas likes her films to be the same, imbued with a touch of magic so that she can venture into the realms of fantasy.
Vasilisa has created some brave and eclectic concepts including the #Waxchick series which broadcast hyper-sexualised self-portraits onto billboards to generate a dialogue on women's representation in public media and the arts. The Waxchick film did well at festivals, showcasing at LSFF, East End Film Festival and ICA. Driven by an opportunity to work again with billboards as a medium and to create art with a sense of activism for social and cultural change, she created the ‘#CAN’ Clean Air Now campaign; a non-profit initiative to advocate for environmental awareness. This virtual campaign created, films, worked with grime musicians and London-based dancers and talent to discuss the necessity for clean air in the city. #CAN went on to be picked up by brands, and showcased at the Tate and RA.
Vas loves impactful, aesthetically striking, poignant and conceptual films with strong female characters and a touch of darkness. She also loves creating set designed worlds.
